How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are a painful annoyance. When they get into your home or around your home they can become a huge problem. For most people a mosquito bite is a simple annoyance that they wish to avoid. For others, though, a slight allergic reaction can mean mosquito bites are rather uncomfortable.

There are a lot of factors in why mosquito problems occur and how bad they can get. Unlike other insects mosquitoes are not really attracted by food sources, but by humans and pets since blood is their food source. This can make getting rid of mosquitoes a little more difficult than getting rid of other pests.

Common Methods

There are many common tactics to fight off mosquitoes. For most people getting rid of mosquitoes involves using commercial mosquito repellents. This is nice to keep them off of you and to stop them from biting you, but it is not going to make them go anywhere. They will just seek out someone who is not wearing protection and bite them.

The better way to fight mosquitoes is to prevent them. Mosquitoes are attracted to water. Any standing water is going to be a call to them to come on over. You will want to eliminate all sources of standing water.

You will also want to look into treatments for your lawn. There are sprays you can get to help cut down the mosquito population. Another thing you should know is that mosquitoes do not like smoke. So, burning a fire is a great way to keep them away.

Popular Mosquito Devices

As mentioned most people deal with mosquitoes to help keep them from biting them. Here are common things you can do to keep mosquitoes from biting you:

- use special candles and torches made from citronella, which repels mosquitoes

- use sprays made for mosquito repellent

There are a number of different products on the market all aimed at repelling mosquitoes. IN recent years there has been the introduction of scented coils, repellent bracelets and other unique products that are supposed to repel mosquitoes. The performance of any type of mosquito repellent depends on a variety of factors. Some may work for you and some may not. It is all a matter of trial and error. However, if you work to get rid of mosquitoes and deplete their numbers you will be better off then just trying to repel them away from you.
